Why Millie Bobby Brown chooses to adopt as she welcomes second baby with Jake Bongiovi

Millie Bobby Brown and Jake Bongiovi have welcomed their second baby through adoption, just over a year after becoming parents for the first time.

The Stranger Things star and her husband took to Instagram on Friday, September 18, to share the first glimpse of their new baby. 

They posted an adorable picture of his tiny hand alongside the rest of the family, as well as a caption that reads, “Hi little guy,” confirming they’ve had a son. The news arrives after the couple, who got married in 2024, first adopted their daughter in August 2025.

And while Millie is currently busy spending time with the family, she previously opened up about her decision to adopt.

Appearing on the Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce podcast in June, Millie explained that adoption was always part of her plan, and something that she’d dreamed of since childhood.

 “Always wanted to adopt. It was always part of my childhood dreams. Every time I was at home and I was five or six years old, my parents were like, ‘You had your baby dolls. They were all adopted.’ I never had any of them. I never pretended I was pregnant,” she explained.

“Adoption is love. Adoption is forever,” she added, before pointing out that she went to school to be a social worker for two years, during which time she learned so much about the process.  

“I loved the aspect of adoption in my social work courses… everything was so, so meaningful and important,” she said. 

The Stranger Things star elaborated further the following month on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast, where she explained, “I had a lot of adopted friends growing up.

“I was someone who, I don’t know, always wanted to be a mum. That was always a goal, but for me, adoption was kind of the first thing I always wanted to do. 

“I don’t necessarily think I have some amazing, elaborate answer, but when it’s in your heart, it’s just in your heart. I just thought that’s going to be a part of my journey.”

She also spoke about the social work courses in this interview, saying, “I studied social work for two years and I loved it. [I] was learning primarily about adoption, which was where I really piqued an interest, and learning from the social worker’s perspective, which I find very interesting. 

“Kudos to all social workers and what they do. I think it’s so amazing and unbelievable. Changing the trajectory of children’s lives forever is a beautiful thing, so my hats off to you.”

Although adoption has been part of her journey, Millie, who is 22 years old, isn’t averse to getting pregnant further down the line. 

“It’s not because I don’t want that,” she told Kelce in reference to getting pregnant. “Hopefully that’s in my future.”

All of this implies Millie and Jake might not be done with growing their family just yet. Speaking to the Smartless podcast last year, she highlighted the fact that her parents had four children, as did Jake’s. 

“And my thing was, I really want a family. I really want a big family. I’m one of four. He’s one of four,” she explained. “So, it is definitely in our future, but, for me, I don’t see having your own child as really any different as in adopting.”
