Following an explosive BBC documentary in which four women accused Jared Leto of criminal sexual misconduct, the actor has broken his silence on the claims, telling Film Shrine that they are “categorically false”. The new allegations are detailed in Jared Leto: Hollywood’s Dark Secret, which landed on BBC iPlayer today. One woman accuses Leto of sexually assaulting her in a motel bathroom when she was 17, while another claims he threatened to sexually assault her after she was left alone with him in a hotel room aged 19. A third alleges she had sex with Leto when she was 17 in California, which would constitute statutory rape under the state’s age of consent laws. A fourth says he groomed her through repeated sexually explicit phone calls when she was 16. The BBC spoke to 10 women in total, who say they encountered Leto between 2002 and 2016, when he was in his 30s and 40s. Former crew members and staff also detailed their experiences with the Oscar-winning star. Sexual impropriety allegations against Leto first received widespread public attention in June 2025, when an Air Mail investigation published accounts from nine women. Leto denied those allegations at the time, while the BBC said that despite repeated attempts to contact the actor, he did not respond to the claims it put to him. However, a representative has since shared the following statement with Film Shrine on his behalf: “I have never sexually assaulted anyone in my entire life. These claims are absolutely and categorically false.” Credit: BBC iPlayer Leto’s statement does not address any individual allegation raised in the documentary, instead issuing a blanket denial of the claims. The actor has not been charged with any criminal offence relating to the accusations. It’s currently unclear whether any action will be taken following the latest wave of claims.
