Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has barely been in cinemas for two weeks, and it’s already battling a major piracy problem. Via Universal Multiple leaked copies of the blockbuster have been circulating on X over the past few days, with some uploads staying live long enough to rack up huge numbers before disappearing. The latest version surfaced on Sunday morning. Although it was reportedly a lower-quality recording, it still attracted close to 50,000 views before being removed around two hours later. Anyone trying to watch it afterwards was met with the message: “This media has been disabled in response to a report by the copyright owner.” The day before, a much clearer version of the film reportedly spread across the platform. That upload amassed millions of views and was reposted thousands of times before it was eventually taken down. The account that shared it has since been suspended. Universal Pictures has now addressed the situation, confirming it acted as soon as it became aware of the leaks. Via Universal In a statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter, the studio said: “We became aware of the unauthorized posting of the film and immediately initiated takedown protocols. We take copyright infringement seriously and will pursue all appropriate remedies to protect our content and intellectual property rights.” The speed at which pirated films are removed from social media often depends on the platform. X has frequently been criticised by copyright holders for being difficult to deal with when requests are made to remove infringing content, meaning leaked videos can sometimes remain online long enough to spread widely before action is taken. Even with Universal moving to remove uploads, pirated versions of The Odyssey have continued resurfacing online, showing just how quickly major blockbuster leaks can snowball once they hit social media.
