Many Hannah Montana fans were wondering why Mitchel Musso, who played Oliver, was missing from the reunion, and he’s finally explained why. Earlier this year, we got a 20-year special reunion for Hannah Montana, featuring Miley Cyrus, her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, and other special guests. Noticeably, both Emily Osment and Mitchel Musso, who played Miley’s best friends Oliver and Lily, were missing. Although we got an explanation for Emily’s absence – scheduling conflicts with CBS sitcom Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage – we never got an explanation for Mitchel’s. via Disney He’s now revealed the reason why in an interview with Joe Vulpis, and it’s not because of his messy criminal record. “Of course, they asked me, but it wasn’t presented correctly. The kid in me was banking on it, like, I can’t wait for us to all be on set again, and it just didn’t work out that way,” the 24-year-old said. Tthe talk show format of the special wasn’t what he wanted – Mitchel would have preferred an actual extra episode of Hannah Montana, to appease fans who had to wait 20 long years. “Do an episode. Do the show. The set is still there. It’s too long a wait to do it in a way that isn’t even close to, in my opinion, correct. It wasn’t the right thing, and I was busy doing something that was more important.” The actor continued: “But it would have been way more important if it would have just been an episode, or a movie. It would have been everything. I would have dropped everything. I’d want to feel the part again. I’d want to put on that little polo again and wear the plaid shorts with the goofy shoes—I’d want to play the character.” Okay, so even though we didn’t get Oliver and Lily for the Hannah Montana reunion, we did get confirmation that they both really wanted to be in it. Maybe we’ll actually get a full-cast reunion in 25 years! For all the latest film and TV updates and hot takes, like our Facebook page.
