The Deep’s death in The Boys season five finale was funny yet unsatisfying, but if you think about the poetic justice for just a moment, you remember Ambrosius. Unlike characters like A-Train, The Deep’s character development in The Boys was lacklustre. He was a creep in episode one, and a pathetic creep by the end of season five. We were all eager to watch him go out spectacularly, with most wanting Starlight to pull the proverbial trigger. In the final episode, after The Boys entered the White House to take Homelander down, Starlight flies The Deep out of the window and to a nearby beach. A fight ensues, if you can really call it that. The showrunners have butchered Starlight in this final season, so she pretty much just punched him until FINALLY blasting him with her powers. This is where The Deep’s death actually happened, because he was earlier banned from the oceans by sea creatures led by Samuel L. Jackson – yes, you read that correctly. Back in season three, during the sticky situation at Herogasm – emphasis on the sticky – The Deep finds an octopus called Ambrosius in a fish tank. Starlight then walks in on Ambrosius giving The Deep oral, but it’s best not to think about it too long if you want to maintain your sanity. Things only get stranger from there, with The Deep attempting to introduce Ambrosius as “the third” in his marriage with his Cassandra. She was obviously not game and left him. The relationship is a lot darker in season four. Ambrosius and The Deep were no longer physically intimate, and he leaves her to essentially rot in her dirty tank. Continuing on the downward slope, the hero and his octopus girlfriend argued about his affair with Sister Sage, who literally had to lobotomise herself to touch him. “You’ve been so distant lately. And we haven’t been…intimate in over a week. You’re working too hard. Let’s take a vacation,” the ocotpus, voiced by Tilda Swinton of all people, begged him. Did he attempt to save his love? Of course not, he locked the door and cried as she slipped her tentacles under the door desperately. How do you feel about The Deeps fate? #TheBoys pic.twitter.com/EHp8SB0vsV — The Boys Out of Context Clips (@TheBoysOOCC) May 20, 2026 And how does Ambrosius link to The Deep’s death in The Boys? After Starlight blasted The Deep into the ocean in the finale, sentencing him to death at the flippers of his former friends, he was assaulted to death by an octopus using its tentacle. “Justice for Ambrosius,” the octopus told him. Though I was one of many who believed that Starlight should have been the one to kill The Deep, the Ambrosius link might be even smarter.
