Just days after it appeared as if The Boys cast were turning on season five, Butcher star Karl Urban has jumped in to defend the Prime Video series. Although The Boys has always been one of the best superhero shows on TV, the reaction to the fifth and final chapter has been, frankly, diabolical. Showrunner Eric Kripke tried to recreate the magic of Breaking Bad’s last season, but for the most part, fans think it’s wasted time setting up the upcoming prequel Vought Rising or presenting random side quests. Others argue that characters like Sister Sage and Homelander are making baffling decisions in order to ensure everyone remains intact for the season finale. Last week, it appeared as if Karl and Homelander’s Antony Starr agreed with the criticism, as the stars both liked separate Instagram posts slamming season five. Karl liked a reel in which user @euro.pilled said, “The Boys season five is fumbling so f*cking bad. Don’t get me wrong, the latest episode was very entertaining, it’s just that it doesn’t make any f*cking sense.” Antony Starr comments under IG post criticizing #TheBoys Episode 7. “❤️” pic.twitter.com/6qUN0QAZhs — The Boys Out of Context Clips (@TheBoysOOCC) May 14, 2026 Meanwhile, Antony dropped heart emojis for various posts calling out the TV show, including one describing season five episode seven the “biggest pile of dogs*t”. The exact reason for them responding to these posts is unclear – while some believe they agree with the hate, others think it could be their way of spreading positive vibes. However, Karl has now seemingly clarified where he stands – or at least made it clear he’s not here for every criticism being thrown at the show. The post he responded to came from user @soupypoopy69, who certainly didn’t hold back in his scathing review of The Boys’ final chapter. “ Every single episode of The Boys that’s come out this season has somehow exceeded my expectations and disappointment in ways that I have not thought possible,” he said. View this post on Instagram A post shared by soupypoopy69 (@soupypoopy69) Much of the rant focused on what the creator saw as the show prioritising crude humour over emotional payoff, something that’s become a huge talking point throughout season five. The biggest example he pointed to was the now-infamous Sheline and Dogknott scene, in which the two characters literally sniff each other’s butts. While The Boys has always leaned heavily into gross-out humour, a lot of fans feel moments like this have taken up too much screentime this close to the finale. “There’s one f**king episode left. Lock in. What the f**k are we doing?” he continued, before arguing that the show has become obsessed with “millennial edge” humour and constant d*ck jokes. He also criticised the writing surrounding Annie and Hughie, pointing to the scene in which the pair spent time cloud-watching. “Instead of Starlight being like, ‘You know I love you a lot,’ all she can muster up is, ‘Yeah, that cloud looks like a d*ck,’” he complained. The TikToker then shifted focus to Kimiko, believing the opportunity of her finally being able to speak has been wasted. The actor then added, “FYI @erickripke1 wrote this sh*t because it’s what Clara would have wanted,” a reference to Soldier Boy’s explanation as to why he gave Homelander the V1. He also tagged Kripke, who addressed the criticism in a recent interview with TV Guide. “None of the things that happen in the last few episodes will matter if you don’t flesh out the characters,” he explained. “I’m getting a lot of online dissatisfaction, to put it politely. And I’m like, ‘What are you expecting? Are you expecting a huge battle scene every episode?’” For all the latest film and TV updates and hot takes, like our Facebook page.
