Meryl Streep knew the original Devil Wears Prada was going to be a hit, and so she negotiated to earn double the original offer. Even then, her 2006 paycheque looks measly next to what she’s earning for the upcoming sequel. Ahead of the release of The Devil Wears Prada 2, Streep sat down with her fellow cast members Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci to speak with Today about her decision going into the original film. “I knew it was going to be a hit. I read the script – the script was great. They called me up, and they made an offer, and I said ‘No. I’m not going to do it.’” Streep explained. “I wanted to see if I doubled my ask, and they went right away and said ‘Sure.’” You don’t ask, you don’t get – plus, isn’t that exactly what Miranda Priestly would do? These latest comments has sparked interest in how much she ended up with, both then and now. How much was Meryl Streep paid for The Devil Wears Prada? Credit: 20th Century Studios According to Celebrity Net Worth and other sources, Streep was paid $5million for her role in The Devil Wears Prada – meaning her initial offer would’ve been $2.5million. But that’s still minor in comparison to her 2026 salary. Although figures haven’t been confirmed, one source estimates her paycheque to be around the $20million mark. However, according to Variety, the production budget pre-marketing was $100million, meaning anywhere between $30-$50million would have been spent on the cast. But given that includes actors like Hathaway, Blunt, and Tucci, it would be safer to assume around $10-15million for Streep. Oh, and in case you were wondering, her net worth is estimated to be $100million in 2026. One thing we know for sure is that it will have been a lot more than in 2006. As Streep said of the sequel in the recent video, “This one, honey, they spent the money!” The Devil Wears Prada 2 box office predictions are looking mighty good Compared to, say, a CGI-heavy Marvel movie, the sequel’s cost is actually comparatively low. If it wants to break even, it’ll need to make around 2.5 times the production budget to account for things like marketing. So, that means The Devil Wears Prada 2 will need to bring in around $250million – and judging by the box office predictions, it’ll do just fine. According to Variety, it’s eyeing a $75-80million opening, while others are expecting it to cross the $100million mark over its first weekend in cinemas. If so, it could easily match the performance of the first movie, which made a whopping $326million against a $40million budget.
