Reese Witherspoon is getting dragged for saying women in film should get ‘involved’ using AI
‘Saying this as an actress is just bewildering’
Reese Witherspoon is getting dragged for new comments regarding AI in filmmaking, and to be honest it’s easy to see why. Creatives around the world are increasingly speaking out against how the rise of AI is a danger to creative jobs – already hard to come by – and to see such a wealthy actress encourage the use of AI is jarring and completely at odds with some of her contemporaries. Reese Witherspoon is the cofounder of production company Hello Sunshine which priorities women’s stories and has seen success with Big Little Lies and Daisy Jones and the Six – but considering her wealth and success and how the AI integration would impact those in smaller industry roles people have called her comments “insulting.”
‘You can be sad and lament all you want’
Speaking in a new interview with Glamour, Reese Witherspoon was promoting the latest season of The Morning Show when the publication asked for her take on the rise of AI in filmmaking. Reese responded “It’s so, so important that women are involved in AI…because it will be the future of filmmaking. And you can be sad and lament it all you want, but the change is here. It will never be a lack of creativity and ingenuity and actual physical manual building of things. It might diminish, but it’s always going to be the highest importance in art and in expression of self.”
One thing about Reese Witherspoon is she’ll always advocate for girlboss grifting tech bubble bullshit https://t.co/pFAXRtZsiU pic.twitter.com/VCL2yBIpLt

“I use AI everyday,” she added, when asked how she implements it in her day-to-day life. “I use search tools, like Perplexity, every day. I use Vetted AI. Like, if you’re buying a blender, it’ll show you six different blenders and also recommend the best product. I use AI Assistant.”
These comments are obviously a big contrast to the other industry big names like Guillermo Del Toro, Steven Spielberg and Ben Affleck who’ve widely warned against AI replacing human creativity in filmmaking.
People aren’t happy
The comments from Reese Witherspoon regarding AI in filmmaking have been hit with big backlash from film fanatics and industry experts, which has seen the mega rich actress getting dragged online.
One said “With respect, I feel like it’s really easy to say this when you own a production company and won’t see your job vanish while your creative colleagues are thrown out on their asses for an algorithm recycling the last century of cinema.”
“It’s here, yes. But you own your own production company so you don’t HAVE to replace human work for a computer,” commented another. “So in an industry where there isn’t equity for women (especially WOC) you’re choosing to use something that’ll create a larger disparity.”
Production company owners like Reese Witherspoon are so detached from reality they can’t even bring themselves to care about the livelihoods of the working class in the film industry.
Not even the livelihoods of her own employees.Disgusting. https://t.co/5eLD1PM5Cl

Another savagely said “Production company owners like Reese Witherspoon are so detached from reality they can’t even bring themselves to care about the livelihoods of the working class in the film industry. Not even the livelihoods of her own employees.”
It’s not the first time Reese Witherspoon has endorsed a polarising rise of controversial new industry – she previously went all in on endorsing the NFT craze.
