Snoop Dogg’s ‘homophobic’ take was already addressed by the film’s lead star, and it’s savage

‘Those people die off like dinosaurs’

A full three years after Pixar’s Lightyear was released, Snoop Dogg landed himself in some major controversy when he confessed to being “scared” over the animated film’s blink-and-you’ll-miss-it LGBTQ+ representation.

In a tiny moment in the Toy Story spin-off, a female astronaut was seen holding her wife and child. It was hardly the stellar queer representation of the century, but Snoop Dogg found it scary nonetheless.

“Aw s**t, I didn’t come here for this s**t, I just came here to watch the goddamn movie. So that’s like f**k me, I’m scared to go to the movies now, y’all throwing me in the middle of this s**t that I don’t have an answer for … it threw me for a loop,” he said in a recent podcast apperence. “These are kids … [do] we have to show that at that age? They’re going to ask questions. I don’t have the answer.”

His statement was widely slammed as “homophobic”, and while the film itself is three years old, its leading star, Chris Evans, earlier addressed the backlash in resurfaced clips.

Snoop Dogg should heed Chris Evans’ Lightyear warning

Back in 2022, when Lightyear first came out, it was met with fierce homophobic backlash from the usual critics. It was largely ignored as right-wing keyboard warriors lost their minds over the seconds-long clip, but Chris Evans did issue a reactionary statement to it.

In an interview with Reuters Television, Chris said, “The real truth is those people are idiots.”

He continued to explain that a change of social attitudes is part of the “American story”, so you either adapt to the new reality or crumble – Snoop Dogg obviously did the latter when talking about Lightyear.

“Every time there’s been social advancement as we wake up, the American story, the human story is one of constant social awakening and growth and that’s what makes us good,” he added.

“There’s always going to be people who are afraid and unaware and trying to hold on to what was before. But those people die off like dinosaurs. I think the goal is to pay them no mind, march forward and embrace the growth that makes us human.”

Someone definitely needs to slide that interview over to Snoop Dogg, perhaps bestie Martha Stewart, who also condemned his Lightyear comments.
