Here’s where the cast of 28 Days Later are now, two decades after its release
Some stars are still going strong
Over the last few years, we’ve seen two sequels to Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later, each one showing the damage caused by the Rage virus. In reminiscence of 28 Years Later, and in anticipation of 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.
After being released in 2002, have a look where the original cast of 28 Days Later are now.
Cillian Murphy

Cillian Murphy’s popularity has only evolved since his lead role in 28 Days Later. To BBC fans he is known for his portrayal of Tommy Shelby, the leader of the Peaky Blinders. Others may know him for his numerous appearances in Nolan’s work, whether it’s the titular Oppenheimer, Scarecrow in the Batman trilogy, or as Robert Fischer in Inception.
At the 96th Academy Awards, Cillian Murphy won an Oscar for his performance in Oppenheimer, which caused Forbes to name him “Hollywood’s new leading man”, and it seems he’s only on the up. He’s allegedly set to reprise his role as Jim from 28 Days Later, in Bone Temple next year, and the role of Tommy Shelby in a film called The Immortal Man. It seems he’s returning to bring closure to his most prominent roles. Out of all the 28 Days Later cast now, Cillian is undoubtedly the most talked about in Hollywood right now.
Naomie Harris
After 28 Days Later, Naomie Harris went on to being in some of Hollywood’s biggest film franchises; from Pirates of the Caribbean, where she played Tia Dalma/Calypso, and James Bond, where she played Eve Moneypenny.
Naomie is also known for her role as Elizabeth Lavenza (Frankenstein’s fiancee) in a Great British Theatre production of Frankenstein, in which Benedict Cumberbatch plays the monster. Most recently, Harris played Dr. Zoey Vaughan in Black Bag in 2025, and Poppy in Apple TV’s Swan Song.
Brendan Gleeson

Brendan Gleeson is probably best known for his role as Mad Eye Moody in the Harry Potter Franchise. However, he’s also starred in two films alongside Colin Farrell. The first was In Bruges, in which they played Irish hit men, and the second film was The Banshees of Inisherin, for which Gleeson was nominated for an Oscar, and a Golden globe, for best supporting actor.
Brendan has also performed in critically acclaimed films such as the Kingdom of Heaven, the Edge of Tomorrow, (and my personal favourite) Paddington Two. Most recently, he appeared in Joker: Folie à Deux, as Jackie Sullivan, a film which really should be classed as a musical.
Christopher Eccleston

Christopher Eccleston went on to play the ninth doctor on Doctor Who, and he provided a stark contrast to the former incarnations of the Doctor. The Ninth Doctor was much less eccentric than his former personas, instead being more pragmatic. He is also the first version of the doctor to perform the role with a northern accent, specifically a Manchester accent, which was the first time the Doctor had an accent other than the traditional southern/RP accent.
Christopher also portrayed Leonard “Nipper” Read, the detective chief superintended whose Met Murder Squad detectives were responsible for the conviction of the Kray twins. One role you may not have realised is Eccleston, was his role as Malekith in Thor Dark World, marking his entrance into the MCU. Eccleston is currently playing Fagin in Dodger, and voiceovers Ambulance, a documentary series about the 999 service.
Megan Burns

Megan played Hannah, the daughter of Frank in 28 Days Later, and has a smaller filmography than her other castmates. Since filming 28 Days Later, Burns appeared as Whistler Silkwood in In2ruders, a short film directed by Naeem Mahmood in 2018.
Megan also released an album and multiple singles of songs, but other than that, has not appeared in the public eye since.
The cast of 28 Days Later are now back in the limelight after the release of the newest movie and for good reason. It was a hard movie to top.
