Um, Amanda Seyfried nearly bawled over nepo babies in strange out of touch interview

If you told me in January that Amanda Seyfried would have the worst take on nepo babies of the year I would have called you a liar, and yet, here we are.

Despite not being one herself –  her parents are in the medical field – Amanda Seyfried gave an odd statement in defence of nepo babies while appearing on Etalk this week. The clip was posted on TikTok where it has amassed over 2.1 million views and nearly 200k likes.

“Listen, nepo babies aren’t the worst,” she said. “We gotta stop giving them a bad name. It’s not their fucking fault.”

When the show’s host said she would have loved “an in”, Amanda echoed her statement and replied: “Me too! I mean it all comes out in the wash, if you’re not good you’re not good.”

Now this is where things get a little strange because while talking about her favourite nepo baby, Gracie Abrams, Amanda looked like she was about to cry. Her face got all scrunched up just like in Mamma Mia – I would recognise those teary eyes anywhere.

“But Gracie Abrams is incredible,” she continued. “So whether or not her dad helped her out, it doesn’t matter, she’s like really really really good at what she does. She brings it and God I love her.”

Hold on – Gracie Abrams is a nepo baby??

That’s right folks, your favourite indie singer is not quite so indie because she is the daughter of film director J.J. Abrams, you know, the man behind the recent Star Wars franchise, Star Trek, and Super 8. He has a reported net worth of $300 million, but yeah, Gracie definitely got there on her own merits.

She did address the nepo baby accusations in conversation with The Rolling Stone: “There are a million visible and even more invisible advantages to having family members who are in any entertainment industry.”

Of course, she then ruined it with the usual “I work hard” rubbish you hear from nepo babies all the time.

As you might expect, people were weirded out by Amanda’s strange defence of both Gracie Abrams and the wider nepo baby community.

“No one criticises nepo babies for not having the talent they are criticized for not acknowledging that being a nepo baby made their life that much easier. That’s why no one criticises Maya Hawke,” one person said.

Someone else wrote: “I was gonna accept her take UNTIL she mentioned Gracie Abrams. Ok, we get it, you wanna be on her father’s good side.”

“What she doesn’t understand is Gracie Abrams gets the best vocal coaches and songwriters,” another pointed out.
