Is a Carry On sequel in the works at Netflix? Taron Egerton says he’s got one condition
If Die Hard can get 50k sequels, so can Carry On
Taron Egerton has spoken about a potential sequel for Carry On, a new Netflix film that sees him undertake a criminal conspiracy as a humble TSA agent in America.
Last week, Netflix paid tribute to the jokes made about Die Hard being a Christmas film by rolling out its own rendition of an action-packed Xmas flick with Kingsman’s Taron Egerton in the driving seat. It also stars Jason Bateman as the mysterious traveller who blackmails him, Sofia Carson, Danielle Deadwyler, Logan Marshall-Green, Dean Norris, and Sinqua Walls.
It’s currently sitting at the number one spot on the Netflix chart.
The ending of Carry On was left fairly open-ended, with Taron’s character Ethan Kopek seemingly getting a promotion from TSA agent to police officer. Naturally, many of us have wondered about a potential sequel with Ethan now a fully fledged crime fighter.
In a recent appearance on the Today Show, Taron spoke about a potential Carry On 2 while making a cheeky joke about Die Hard getting sequel after sequel.
“It’s kind of like an extraordinary set of circumstances, so I think it would need a really innovative, creative idea to feel like a worthy idea for a sequel. But yeah, why not? Sequels work for Die Hard, so who knows?” he laughed.
How did Netflix’s Carry On actually do?
Though it’s still early days, at least where Netflix releases are concerned, Carry On is already shaping up to be an incredibly divisive watch, much like Die Hard. Some people love it, some hate it, and others are just happy to see Taron Egerton on their screens again.

Taking to Twitter, one person wrote: “#CarryOn is a clear homage to 90s action thrillers, most notably drawing parallels with Die Hard, but man does it work. Taron Egerton steps into the shoes of a star like Liam Neeson against the meticulous (and great) Jason Bateman. Tight script and outlandish action – good stuff.”
“If you want to watch an awful movie I can highly recommend Carry On which is currently streaming on Netflix. It’s two hours of your life you’ll never get back,” another argued.
When it comes to actual figures, Carry On currently has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 86 per cent and an audience score of 60 per cent, suggesting it’s much more popular with critics than watchers.
