Keke Palmer says Ryan Murphy called her ‘unprofessional’ for not going to set on her day off
She thinks she severed her working relationship with Ryan Murphy by standing up to him
Keke Palmer has revealed how Ryan Murphy ‘ripped’ into her on the set of Scream Queens, and shouted at her for being ‘unprofessional’ for the crime of simply not turning up to the set on her literal day off. How dare she take a day off that she’s entitled to and not engage with work on that day? Beyond belief.
Speaking in a new interview with the LA Times, Keke Palmer explains how she got her shooting schedule when making Scream Queens with Ryan Murphy – and planned to fulfil another business obligation on her day off. The day then rolled around, and Keke was needed on set but committed to the other obligation which pissed Ryan Murphy off.
Keke Palmer explains the Ryan Murphy beef, saying he ‘ripped’ into her and branded her ‘unprofessional’. “It was kind of like I was in the dean’s office. He was like, ‘I’ve never seen you behave like this. I can’t believe that you, out of all people, would do something like this.’”
Keke Palmer then says she apologised to Ryan Murphy, and felt like everything was sound between them until one of her co-stars implied it wasn’t squashed. “I said, ‘Ryan talked to me and I guess he’s cool, it’s fine,’ and she was like, ‘It’s bad,’ trying to make me scared or something, which was a little irritating.” Keke Palmer believed she could go on to be one of the recurring actors who frequently star in Ryan Murphy productions like “Sarah Paulson, Emma Roberts” but says because she stood up to the situation it ended that possibility for her.

She also writes the following in her new book, The Master of Me, regarding the situation. “I’m still not sure Ryan cared, or got it, and that’s okay because he was just centering his business, which isn’t a problem to me. But what I do know is even if he didn’t care, and even if I never work with him again, he knows that I, too, see myself as a business.”
