UW-Madison student killed in pedestrian-vehicle crash

The driver of the vehicle is suspected of driving while intoxicated.

Saturday night a pedestrian-vehicle crash occurred on the intersection of West Washington Street and Park Street , killing one pedestrian.

The incident occurred when the driver, suspected of being under the influence of alcohol, ran his SUV onto the sidewalk, injuring three pedestrians. Two of which were treated for their injuries at the scene while the third,Wenxin Huai, was transported to the hospital for treatment, but she did not survive her injuries.

According to the Madison Police Department the driver of the vehicle, a 32 year old Madison man, was taken to the hospital where he remains. He will be arrested when he is released on tentative charges, including homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle.

The University confirmed Huai, the victim, was a 24 year old UW graduate student, of Beijing. She was set to graduate from the institution in May with a masters degree in economics.
