Armed robbery at Subway prompts series of WiscAlerts to students

UWPD still looking for Monday’s suspect

After a man with a gun was reported near Union South, UW-Madison students received a series of WiscAlerts about the danger.

The alerts were sent after the suspect entered Subway on University Ave., showed employees a handgun and demanded the money in the restaurant's register.

Madison Police Department's incident report states the suspect fled toward Johnson St. after receiving an undisclosed amount of money.

Witnesses described the robber as a white male, approximately six feet tall, a red shirt or jacket and a scarf/mask covering most of his face.

Madison Police responded to another Subway when someone matching the suspect's description entered the restaurant. After further investigation, the individual was not connected to the robbery.

At about 9pm, UWPD released an update that the subject was believed to have left the area.

The investigation will continue as a suspect has not been located or identified.
