Two suspects have been arrested in the incident involving a gun on State Street

People were screaming and running away

Late Saturday evening a man on State Street was seen terrifying pedestrians with what appears to be an assault rifle.

The man with the gun has since been identified as a 31-year-old Leia's Lunchbox food cart employee. He was arrested on Sunday night on a probationary hold.

The altercation began with two men while they were waiting in line to buy food from Leia's Lunchbox on the 500 block of Frances Street. The food cart employee exited the food cart to try to calm the men down, but the two men then began trying to fight the employee.

This is when the employee brought out his assault-style rifle and pointed it at one of the men. The police are still trying to determine if the weapon was real.

According to the police release no shots were fired.

One Madison man was punched in the face by one of the men involved in the initial disturbance. That suspect was arrested. He was a 29-year-old Madison man.

One UW-Madison student said, “I was walking from DU to my dads hotel by the capitol, and right outside of Mooyah this guy was walking around with an AK47(we have not confirmed the gun type) and everyone was running away and screaming."
