The ultimate Madison gym guide for optimal results

I tried all of these gyms so you don’t have to

I should start by saying I’m no athlete, but I do believe in leading an active lifestyle. I feel as though there are many benefits to exercise which go beyond improving one’s appearance. Although I mostly work out to stay fit, I find it also helps with stress relief and boosting energy.

Sometimes it can be tough to find a routine right for you. Not everyone has the motivation to hit the SERF and figure out what machines to use, for how long and if you’re even doing it right. Luckily, our campus is packed with new and trendy gyms which can get you on the right track.

Not every gym is for everyone, however. So how do you determine which place is best for you? Simple. Read this.

I tried out four gyms with four very different approaches to exercise. You can gauge the difficulty level based in how I look in these selfies taken after class.

If you want to sweat your a$$ off, go to Dragonfly

The hot yoga at Dragonfly will soothe and strengthen your body and mind. Colorful decor and fun, helpful instructors will make your experience one worth talking about.  As the room slowly gets warmer, the moves get harder and you (profusely) sweat out all your calories and worries from the day.

If you want to lose your breath, go to Cyc

The upbeat and motivational atmosphere at Cyc will be the highlight of your day. Rock out on your bike to killer playlists while challenging yourself to push a little extra. The non-stop movement will have you working hard and fast to burn optimum calories and create plenty of endorphins.

If you want your muscles to scream, go to The Barre Code

Like I said, I’m no athlete. But I didn’t know I was THAT out of shape until I spent the entire barre class thinking my muscles were going to shake right off the bone! Your time spent at this sleek studio will leave you feeling strong and sexy. Energetic instructors know how to mix it up so that you never get bored and are constantly targeting new areas of your body for maximum results.

If you want your legs to fall off, go to Kamps

I am not a runner, never have been and probably never will be. At Kamps, they make you run. Despite my personal distaste for this type of cardio, I was pleasantly surprised by the muscle isolation exercises on the floor. Knowledgable, cool  instructors help and encourage you to complete every move to your fullest potential. I went to class on a Tuesday, which targeted the lower body, but each day of the week focuses on different areas like upper body and core.

I would personally recommend all four gyms to anyone looking to ditch the SERF and try something new and exciting.
