The best gyms in Madison to try this year

Start your ‘get fit’ resolution off right

The new year has just begun, and you know what that means.  Everyone is looking to get into shape.  The ‘get fit’ resolution is one people make every year, and it always seems to fizzle after a couple weeks.  Why is that?

Whether it’s too expensive or too boring, people always find excuses not to hit the gym.  However, the city of Madison is the perfect place to try out new routines, and I’ve made a list of all the inexpensive first-time packages these gyms have to offer.

Cyc Fitness

I did it for the one, two, one, two

One class will burn about 800 calories if you push yourself.  With the dark lights and the thumping music, you feel like you’re in a nightclub, not a cycling studio.  The best part?  If you’re brand new to the tribe, you can get three classes for $40.  Can you say steal?

Inner Fire Yoga

Right next to Cyc Fitness, this hot yoga studio will be sure to get you sweating.  With a ton of different classes, all with different heat levels, you will find a class that fits you.  They offer an unlimited month of yoga for $39, but I have a secret for you.  You can find the same package on Groupon for $35.  The more you go, the greater the savings.

Anytime Fitness

The convenient location of this gym makes working out easy.  The amount of equipment is insane, the staff is super friendly, and you have the option of working with a trainer if you want to.  The best part?  You can try a free seven-day trial, which means seven days of free fitness.  Not interested in joining?  No worries, you can move on whenever you’d like.

Canvas Club boxing

Need to let out a little steam?  Canvas Club is the place for you.  The boxing studio is located on Monroe Street, and it is the perfect place to learn some self defense and get your heart rate up.  The first class is always free, and starter packs can be found on Groupon for $5 a class.  Box your way to the sculpted arms and abs you’ve always wanted.

The SERF and Nat

Nothing is better than working out with friends

Remember how our tuition goes to providing gyms?  Take advantage of them!  Regular access to these gyms is free with your student ID, and specialty classes are only $30 for the entire semester.  Want to try yoga and HIIT?  This is the place where you can do both.  Grab your university friends and sweat it out.

OrangeShoe Fitness

Is this how you lift?

Located on Capital Square, this gym gives clients the one-on-one time and support you may need this year.  They offer individual and small group training sessions, so you can work out at your comfort level.  All of the exercises are tailored to you and your fitness level, so you don’t have to feel intimidated.  The first class is free, so go visit the supportive staff of OrangeShoe Fitness today.

Boulders Climbing Gym

If you have a car and a love for heights, check out this climbing gym.  They have specials every week day, so you can pick the perfect day to climb for less.  Work on those gluts and arms with friends, and have a blast doing it.

Whether you try out these gyms or not, make sure you are smart and savvy with your workouts.  This list will surely make your resolution easier to keep.
