Statistics show the Badgers will win against the Gophers

Breaking down previous game statistics to show how the Badgers will prevail

The final Badger football game of the year is upon us, and it is against our true school rival, UM-Twin Cities.  From enrollment numbers to academics, we like to show how much better UW-Madison is over our Minnesota counterparts.  With the Badger-Gopher rivalry coming to Camp Randall today, it’s time to analyze the stats and show we are the school to beat.

We have more rushing yards gained

With a cumulative 2,458 rushing yards gained this year, we beat Minnesota by over 100 yards.  That’s one TD opportunity the Gophers have missed, and with our rushing game this year, it’s a big advantage for us.

Badgers have had more first-downs

Collectively, we’ve had 225 first-downs this year, which beats Minnesota by ten.  Though the number is close, it will lead to a better game to watch, with the Badgers coming first.  With more rushing and passing plays resulting in first-downs, the Badgers are, yet again, above the Gophers.

Our third-down percentage is better

At 43.79 percent for the season, our third-down conversion rate beats Minnesota’s by less than two percent.  Though this doesn’t seem like much, the Badgers show they excel over the Gophers in yet another way.

We’ve won more games this year

The Gophers have lost three games this year.  The Badgers have only lost two games.  You do the math.

Madison has home field advantage

Though many students are home for Thanksgiving, we have the die-hard fans coming back to cheer on our team.  Camp Randall will be full of true Badger fans screaming for another win against the Gophers, and you know Jump Around will help.  With only one loss at home this year, we are sitting pretty.  Plus, Minnesota has lost two away games this year, so let’s make it a third.

We’ve won the Axe more times

Since the first game for Paul Bunyan’s Axe in 1948, Wisconsin and Minnesota have been fighting to show who is the best.  Excluding the three ties, we have won 42 times, and they’ve had the Axe only 23 times.  With almost double the amount of possessions, we are looking pretty good.

Though the Gophers have scored more points collectively this year than we have, we have the stats to back us up.  We will be bringing home the Axe yet again this year.  Go Badgers!
