Another UW-Madison student arrested on sexual assault charges

The assault is said to have occurred Thursday in a UW-Madison residence hall

University of Wisconsin-Madison Police arrested a UW-Madison student Thursday on charges of sexual assault.

According to the UW-Madison Police Department Incident Report, the suspect is 18 year-old, Alec Shiva, and the assault occurred in a university residence hall.

Shiva has been arrested for charges of second degree sexual assault, battery, false imprisonment, strangulation, disorderly conduct, and criminal damage to property.

The victim told police Shiva strangled her, held her against her will and assaulted her in his room. Once she broke free she called the police.

A bystander allegedly confronted Shiva after noticing the victim seemed distressed. Once confronted Shiva became very combative, and tried to punch the bystander. He broke a mirror and other UW property is his room.

The university has placed Shiva under emergency suspension.
