I tried and ranked pizza places in Madison

I’m from Chicago, so you better believe I know my Pizza

Growing up in Chicago, I have experienced the best of the best in terms of Pizza. Everyone knows Chicago style pizza is the best type of pizza. When I came to Madison for school, it was my mission to find the best pizza places in town. Although they are very different from Chicago style, all of them are high up on my list and should be on yours too.

Pizza Del Roma (PDR)

There is a big debate in Madison on whether PDR is better than Ian’s. In my opinion, PDR is a lot better. If you’re looking for a huge slice of pizza to satisfy your late night or even day time needs, PDR is the place to go. Personally, a plain slice of cheese pizza is my go to here, but they definitely have a wide variety of toppings. PDR never fails to be cooked perfectly with just the right amount of sauce, so you don’t have to smear some of it off onto your plate. If your looking for the #1 pizza place on state street, I would make the trip to Pizza Del Roma.

Ian’s

Even though I did say PDR was better, Ian’s still hits the spot when you need it. Ian’s is a perfect late night spot when you’re in need of a hefty piece (or pieces) of pizza. Whether it’s mac and cheese, alfredo pasta with chicken, or barbecue chicken, Ian’s isn’t short of their topping choices. You definitely can’t come to Ian’s for cheese or pepperoni, you have to get a crazy topping here.

Toppers

When you’re in need of a full pizza delivered to your dorm room, Toppers is the way to go. If you go to school at UW Madison and don’t have Toppers in your contacts on your phone, you have a serious problem. Not only do they have amazing pizza, but their sticks are even better. Toppers sticks are famous. You can get them in pizza form with toppings or you can get them with cinnamon and frosting on top. This place is basically an updated version of Dominos. You won’t regret this late night delivery.

Lotsa

The new place in town. Although it only opened a couple weeks ago, I have already been to Lotsa five times and have never failed to put it on my my Snapchat story. This delicious pizza place allows you to choose one of their pizzas or make your own. With a variety of sauces, cheeses, and toppings to choose from, your pizza can come out of the oven looking pretty crazy. This is the only pizza place on State Street that lets you make your own and is still open until 3am, so do not pass this opportunity up.

Gordon’s

Although it’s a dining hall and many people would never consider dining hall food to be the top of their list, Gordon’s pizza will change your mind. Gordon’s pizza is a hot commodity. Not only do they serve it all day, you can also get it for takeout. What other dining hall does that? The answer is none. This may be the underdog of the places on this list, but it should never be forgotten. Gordon’sĀ pepperoni and sausage pizza are a must for every Freshman in Madison. If you didn’t have the chance to try it as an underclassmen, I think it’s time for you to make the trip back to Gordon’s, it’ll be completely worth it.

Whether it’s pizza for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a late night snack, it’s necessary that as a student at UW-Madison, you try all of these places and more. Pizza is a go to for many students and if you are really going to eat those calories and risk the freshman (or any age) fifteen, it better be worth it. Wisconsin pizza is definitely on the come-up, I’ll have to let Chicago know.
