UW students selling ‘all white people are racist’ sweatshirts

Sweatshirts for sale, each promoting violence against police officers and claiming all white people being racist

In light of all of the police brutality against black people, a UW-Madison student made sweatshirts claiming that “all white people are racist”, and is selling them on Etsy.

Eneale Pickett is a sophomore and he started an Etsy shop called, InsertapparelShop which sells sweatshirts addressing racism, homophobia and sexism.

According to an article by Campus Reform, the goal of these messages is to abolish the idea of racism and the power that comes with being visibly white.  These sweatshirts are promoting violence against members of the police force as well as labeling all white people as racist.

The sweatshirt promoting violence against police officers says “If I encounter another cop with a God complex I’m going to have to show the world that they are human.”

One sweatshirt promotes awareness against homophobia, saying “you can’t be revolutionary and homophobic.” And another addresses sexism saying, “Attention! Black Men: If you’re talking about dismantling a system, you better include patriarchy.”

In a Facebook post about his clothing Pickett said, “I want people to share this because white people hate talk about race in this country, so share it lets get this conversation going!”

Pickett recently posted on his Facebook page saying people have been sending him death threats via social media. Pickett posted 40 screen shots of these threats. The pictures below are just a few of the screen grabs Pickett posted.

The goal to promote awareness of racial disparity has been met with negative comments, and Facebook has stepped in to delete one of the sweatshirt pictures, because it did not comply with their Community Standards.  With racism controlling our news and media, these sweatshirts are hoping to change the conversation.
