Man arrested after choking UW-Madison student

The altercation started as ‘physical horseplay’, but turned violent

UW Madison Police have arrested a man on battery for the aggravated assault of a UW-Madison student early Friday morning near Memorial Union.

At 1 a.m. Friday morning UW Police received a battery report near Lakeshore path.

Brian N. Campbell, who fled the scene before police arrived, has since been arrested on charges of strangulation and disorderly conduct.

The victim said she knew her attacker.

According to UWPD spokesperson Marc Lovicott, the altercation started as “physical horseplay”, but turned violent.
