Homeless man arrested on suspicion of murdering UW-Madison sophomore Beau Solomon

The 19-year-old’s body was found in Rome’s Tiber River on Monday

A homeless Italian man has been arrested and believed to be involved in what is now being called a murder in the case of 19-year-old Beau Solomon.

Two witnesses saw the man throw a body into Rome’s Tiber River the same night that Beau was reported missing by friends.

The family is now saying this is being treated as a murder because of the wound on Beau’s head and blood that was found on his shirt when his body was pulled from the river.

Police also believe there could be links to a robbery involving the murder, as Solomon’s credit card was charged upwards of $1,700 in Milan after he had been reported missing.

Police are identifying the homeless man they have arrested as Massimo Galioto, a 40-year-old of Rome.

Galioto was taken into custody after police had said he had been “seriously implicated” in the death of the UW Madison student.
