Wake Forest area in high-risk zone for lead exposure

Wake Forest and Winston Salem lead into a LED problem

After news broke about lead exposure and poisoning in Flint, Ohio, Vox  designed an interactive map that allows users to enter their address in order to see the likeliness for lead exposure in their community.

Unfortunately, Wake Forest scored in the higher range of this spectrum, with a 7 out of 10 on the map.

Winston-Salem scored 10 out of 10 (the majority of LED clusters are, in fact, in urban areas).

I know! I know! GASP! But have some hope, these levels are not confirmed lead poisoning cases, but an “estimate calculated using government data about the surroundings.” This map uses census information, like the number of houses in the area and poverty level, which can contribute to LED poisoning.

Sorry, Deacs! If you were planning on it, please do no take a skinny dip in the brook that runs through Reynolda village any time soon.
