Festive things to do in Blacksburg during the fall

Football isn’t the only way to have fun

Blacksburg can sometimes seem like just mountains and farmland, but there is so much more to do around here if one gets to exploring. Fall is the prime time to do most of these things as well, so get to it!

Hiking

Yes, it’s a given, but just take time to visit all that the surrounding areas have to offer. Dragons Tooth is a great location to camp, McAfee’s Knob has a huge reward at the top with the gorgeous view, the Cascades has beautiful waterfalls, and Bald Knob is great for a brief hike to the top of a cliff.

Breweries

Breweries always provide visitors with a good time. They sometimes have live music and events to attend while enjoying a flight. There are multiple in this area, including Parkway Brewery in Salem, Soaring Ridge Craft Brewers in Roanoke, and the Rising Silo Brewery in Blacksburg. A brewery tour might be the next best thing on a Saturday other than football.

Pumpkin Patch

Of course, in the fall a visit to the pumpkin patch is a must. Joe’s Trees and Sinkland Farms are open every weekend in October, so there is plenty of opportunity to enjoy the crisp, mountain air.

Apple Picking

Who knew this was a thing? In Pembroke, apple picking is definitely a thing. Doe Creek Farm has dwarf trees that make this classic activity much easier to do.

Haunted Houses

Haunts are closer than people think. If anyone needs a good scaring, the Gallows in Christiansburg is the place to go.

Bonfires

Although this is great during the summer, nothing warms the toes better than a good bonfire. The best part about this is that it doesn’t cost money. Check out the local frats or even your friends’ backyard.
