Start jumping: VT rated second for Best Entrance in College Football

LETS GO! HOKIES!

This week has been all about the Hokies, from being rated #1 for happiest students to winning the Victoria’s Secret campus showdown, so it does not come as a surprise that we are ranked at the top of yet another list.

Sports Illustrated has just released their rankings for the best entrances in college football, ranking Virginia Tech #2, right behind ACC rival Clemson. Some other schools that fell into the ranks include known top football teams such as Ohio State, Penn State, and University of South Carolina.

The Virginia Tech football program has been defined by some of the most devoted fans in college football. For the few minutes before the football team charges onto the field, anyone within a few miles radius can hear the cracking decibels of the stadium roaring “LETS GO! HOKIES!”

To attend a Virginia Tech football game, you are automatically a part of a more-than-decade-long tradition of jumping to Metallica’s 1991 hit Enter Sandman. Entrance music is an essential tradition of many sports teams across the nation. Some being more well known than others, such as The Gator Chomp at the University of Florida as well as the song, Jump Around used by Wisconsin. However Virginia Tech adds a spin to it. It is expected that every fan, from students to lane stadium veterans “start jumping” to the infamous Enter Sandman. Virginia Tech began using the song as the football team’s entrance music in 2000 just in time for the home opener against rival Georgia Tech. The song was chosen over two other options, Welcome to the Jungle by Guns N’ Roses as well as Sirius by the Alan Parsons Project. That being said, it is more than safe to say that the athletic department made a wise choice, making Virginia Tech’s football entrance one of the greatest of all time.

It is projected that the 2016 football season will be one of the most exciting yet, due in part to the arrival of new head coach Justin Fuente. Virginia Tech students and fans are sure to cheer louder, and jump higher to give Fuente a warm welcome home.

Lane stadium projects all the sights and sounds of what it means to be a Virginia Tech Football fan. A jumping ocean of maroon and orange is sure to make for and incredibly exciting atmosphere and make the visiting team weak in their cleats.
