Charlottesville ranks fourth best city in US for entrepreneurship

Excuse to never leave?

According to Entrepreneur magazine, UVA is fourth out of the 50 best cities for growing entrepreneurship in the country.

The process combined data such as number of businesses and employees, the unemployment rate, and tax rates with overall quality of life affected by commute times and cost of living among many other factors.

It found that Charlottesville specifically is below the average unemployment rate and is a fast growing area for startup investments.

HackCville offers workshops to students to help develop entrepreneurial career skills.

UVA students and graduates have contributed to the success of the area. Just this past year graduates founded The Corner Meal Plan, open to all Charlottesville residents, offered through their very own catering company FlashCater.

HackCville exemplifies Charlottesville’s value for innovation too, as it works with UVA students to connect them with the world of entrepreneurship and startups.

Willowtree Inc. is another creative company for app development. It recently worked with the UVA Health System to create an app assisting patients in surgery preparation and recovery.
