There’s a protest about getting rid of the Robert E Lee statue right now

They want to rename Lee Park too

Around 30 protesters are gathered by the statue of General Robert E Lee in Lee Park right now.

Sporting magnificent facial hair and the flag of Northern Virginia, several of them want the statue of General Lee to either remain in its current place or be relocated, rather than having it destroyed.

Others wish to see the monument to the Confederate General removed.

A Charlottesville High School student began a petition to scrap the statue and rename the park after talking with Deputy Mayor Wes Bellamy.

More to follow.
