Bad political etiquette on social media sucks

Can we leave the Holocaust out of it?

Politics is a great thing to understand. Politics is even a great thing for one to think they understand because, hey, they are at least thinking about politics.

Note however, that there are certain etiquettes when handling political issues. There are certain ways to approach politics when arguing, writing, displaying signs/stickers/campaign merchandise, and social media.

The latter tends to be the most forgotten etiquette, so, as we are knee deep in the campaigning season, lets make social media great again.

In creating a new social media century, there are five etiquettes to keep in mind.

Read on and #feeltherules.

Don’t put other opinions down

It is important to remember that while you have the right and ability to voice opinions via social media outlets, not everyone will agree with you. Just because someone does not share the same opinion as you, they are not to be made to feel inferior, stupid, or uneducated.

Someone could probably think that your opinions are inferior, stupid, and uneducated. If you do not wish for someone to make you feel like an idiot for your views, do not do the same to other. Treat others as you wish to be treated. This should probably be basic human curtsey and understanding but politics does tend to make people forget what respect is.

Be positive that the info/article/statistics are coming for a viable source

If you are getting the majority of your post from something you read or shared from “Americans Against the Tea Party” or “Americans Against the Democratic Party” it is probably safe to say you may not understand the whole argument.

Getting your information and supporting arguments from biased outlets make it hard for your opinions to be credited. In the end, you may not actually understand the whole argument and you will look incompetent to the people you are trying to prove your smartness to.

You must take the time to research a topic from all view points rather than take the headline that sounds good, because you could very well end up looking uneducated. It can also appear to that you are just siding with the side of the argument that is supported by your “party” with out having substantial ground to back them up.

If you do not wish to put in the extra effort, then please refrain. For my sake and your followers.

Keep your ideas steady

This one is important. If you are going to post what you think then make for sure you have actually thought it out and really truly believe it. Nobody wants to read the post of someone who is the Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick of political opinions. Know what you believe and if you don’t know what you actually think, do not post about it. Ever.

Don’t argue in the comments

Ongoing arguments in that post you made about Bernie Sanders and free education or Donald Trump and the Wall are like the rash of political post. It stick around forever and keeps popping up in the newsfeed and only gets more irritating with time. If you are going to argue with someone, call them, text them, or see them face-to-face. No one else cares that you are not getting along.

Also note: if you are one of those people who are constantly threatening to de-friend people who disagree with you, just do it. Please. Save everyone else from the inflicted pain of you guys having it out on social media. You are achieving nothing outside of pissing people off. Stay classy, my friends.

Leave the Holocaust out of it

This one is short and simple: don’t ever do it. Ever. If you would not like to be compared to Hitler don’t do it to other people. Its cruel and highly unnecessary. This rule also stands for calling candidate the anti-Christ. You do not have like them but calling people by such horrid names is uncalled for.

Limit your posts

WE GET IT ALREADY! Hilary should be in jail! Bernie is a socialist scum who want to turn America into Russia! Rubio hit that kid in the face with a football so he must hate children! Trump is a racist and sexist human piece of trash! We get it. Leave it alone. Every now and then? Cool. Please hit the breaks next time you want to beat one of your opinions on the head with a hammer. No one really cares that much about what you think to consistently read what you think about the same thing.

Please and thank you.
