I went to NCSU’s Hunt Library and UNC needs to step up their game

I’m only a little salty that Davis doesn’t have ice cream.

On Friday, OWASA (Orange Water And Sewage Authority) announced that Orange County’s water had been contaminated. On top of that, the source from where we were currently borrowing our water had a water line break and all of Orange County was SOL. As a result, residents were urged to relocate while they fixed the water situation.

Fast forward 24 hours and a friend (Mack) and I are taking refuge in my sister’s apartment in Cary (she’s the GOAT). Cary is pretty much Raleigh so we are basically at NC State *gasp*. Hey, at least it’s not dook.

Orange County really timed #lackofwatergate well because midterms are next week and all of campus is closed, including the libraries — yay. Needing a place to study, Mack and I decided to check out State’s Hunt Library. Believe me when I tell you that UNC needs to step up their library game.

First of all, the area it was in was super cool and techy (obviously I’m not a tech person because that’s not a word). It’s located in the engineering campus of State, so needless to say, this advertising major felt a little out of place.

tell me this doesn’t look cool

After parking in the FREE parking lot RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET, we walk into this super fancy place that looks like it belongs in Silicon Valley and does not look like a scary institutional building from the 80s (I’m looking at you, Davis).

We walk into the library and it’s super cool, but let’s be honest, it’s a glorified version of the first floor of Davis. C’mon State, be original.

Also, this place has a robot that picks the books for you but it doesn’t have a name so it’s sad. I cried a little.

Due to the excessive amount of coffee I drank from the cute little coffee shop, I had to go to the bathroom a lot, and I was not disappointed. This bathroom was so clean and pristine. In Davis, you are lucky to get a toilet that is not clogged, but here, all the toilets are squeaky clean. I would come all the way to this library just to avoid Davis’ toilets, alone. Downside: there’s way too much red in here so I had to take a mirror pic with my Carolina shirt to balance it out. And yes, I did wear my UNC gear to State. #sorrynotsorry

PSA: STATE TOOK OUR WATER.

Must say, the best part of my entire Hunt Library experience has to be the fact that they serve ice cream. This lactose intolerant girly loves her ice cream and this scoop did not disappoint.

Mack and I made new friends during this trip who were actually from UNC. Shoutout to those lovely ladies who sat with us and endured the dirty looks we got with us.

had to

Despite the dirty looks and State students taking pictures of us (btw, we saw y’all taking pictures, you were not sneaky), we had a very good experience. Thank you NC State for taking us in during a crisis. We will gladly welcome you into our library if y’all ever run out of water.

I left that place with more knowledge about nuclear weapons (thank you, POLI 150) and a hope that my engineering husband will shoot me a text soon.
