Carolina applicants set new record

40,972 applications were submitted for Fall 2017

For the 12th straight year, the UNC-Chapel Hill admissions office reported an increase in applications received for Fall 2017. In total, 40,792 applications were submitted, an increase of 13.7 percent since last year. The increase happens to be the second-largest within 25 years.

In a press release, Steven Farmer, Vice Provost for Enrollment and Undergraduate Admissions, said, “We continue to be humbled by the interest shown in us by so many terrific students from all over the world.”

He added, “We know that these young people have many choices for college, and we are grateful that they are considering Carolina. We will treat every one of them with the greatest care and respect.”

The transfer application will remain open until Feb. 15.

UNC-Chapel Hill is planning to accept 4,200 first-years and 800 transfer students for Fall 2017.

Decisions will be released at the end of January for early action submissions, March for regular decision and mid-April for transfers.

To those who applied, good luck and Go Heels!
