We asked students what ‘illegal’ items they have in their dorms

‘Our hermit crab is named Kirk – we tell him all of our college problems’

We are all familiar with the classic dorm rules – no candles, no pets, no toasters, etc. The rules vary slightly depending on where you live on campus, but the bottom line is the same.

While most students stick to the rules, a few individuals decided to give their dorm a little personality.

We decided to ask some students on campus and see if we could find some rule breakers – and we did. Here are the most creative rule-breakers we came across.

We have a hermit crab

“His name is Kirk. He’s really lively at times. We tell him all of our college problems.”

I have candles

“They just smell delicious. I pay attention to my seasonal scents.”

I have a crock-pot

“I like to cook tofu with different kinds of spices and vegetables and such.”

I have a cotton candy machine

“It’s commercial grade, like, they have these at the fair.”

When asked, one student said: “I have a rice cooker.” Another admitted: “I almost brought my hookah.”
