Stanford-Hect Dining Hall legend Gene Zazofsky passes away

Students at UM were informed by email this morning

Around 10:30 this morning, students at the University of Miami received an email bearing sad news.

Gene Zazofsky, who worked in the Stanford-Hecht Dining Hall, passed away earlier this week. While details of when and how he passed were not shared with the residents of the Hecht and Stanford dorms, residents were invited to attend an evening event in the Dining Hall where they will be serving some of Zazofsky’s favorite foods.

Zazofsky was well-known and liked member of the Stanford-Hecht Dining Hall. Though he seemed like a man of few words, Zazofsky was a very kind individual ready to make small talk or crack a joke. Oftentimes, you could catch him on the rocking chairs by the Rathskeller enjoying the sun and reading a newspaper.

It is evident that one of Miami’s finest will be missed. May he rest in peace.
