Mail stolen from Sylvan

SOS mail thief on the loose

As of Sunday morning, the UMass Police Department informed the UMass community that numerous mailboxes were broken into in the Sylvan Residential Area. More specifically, UMPD described that mail from both Brown and McNamara halls had been reported as stolen.

Though the identity of the suspect is not currently known, UMPD has obtained camera footage of a person suspected of being involved. This can be found in a crime report email sent out to all UMass students. Further, UMPD advises anyone with knowledge regarding this situation to immediately call and let them know.

If you wish to provide an anonymous tip, you can call the tip line at (413)-577-8477 or fill out the UMPD anonymous witness form, which can be found online on the UMPD website.

The UMass Residence Service Office is collaborating with UMPD to divert mail to nearby mail offices for the time being. Such precautions are in place to ensure the safety of students' mail.

Word to the wise: don't let people sneak in behind you through the door; they may just end up stealing you're mail next. As for Sylvan residents, stay vigilant. Be on the lookout for thieves digging through your mailboxes!
