How to celebrate Valentine’s Day without breaking the bank

Cuz who wants a diamond necklace anyways?

Some love it, some dread it, but if you have a significant other you don’t have much of a choice. You’ll be celebrating Valentine’s Day one way or another, and finding the perfect way to can be tricky.

There’s a fine line between sweet and sappy. There’s also the question of how much to spend since most of us are ballin’ on a budget.

But no need to make V-Day an exception. If you don’t want to resort to the the oh-so-cliche teddy bear, chocolates-and-roses combo, there are plenty of options for personalized and inexpensive gifts.

Start with the basics. Think twice before popping into CVS for that discounted card like every other person. A handmade card is thoughtful and endearing. No one seems to write letters anymore, so include a sweet and honest note with their favorite candy.

Yes? No? Maybe?

“Didn’t we just exchange Christmas presents?” Yes, but V-day gifts should really be about showing bae how much you care. Burn a cd with all those songs you bond over. If that’s not your style, remember the other day when they said they lost their Nalgene, or how they were looking for a new book to read? Gifts like these will show them how you care.

As much as we all love Instagram and Facebook, these sites make developed photos seem antiquated. If you’re struggling to think of a gift that is meaningful and memorable, frame a photo of the two of you. It can sit on their desk as a constant reminder of you.

Ah, squirrels, how romantic

The classic end to a Valentine’s Day night would be a fancy dinner out. You can still enjoy a candlelit meal without spending a such a pretty penny. Cook a meal together at home; this is romantic and affordable while also satisfying when you sit down and enjoy it together.
