All of the reasons Main Street is the best thing About UD

The housing is perfect for pre-games

The food options are absolutely endless

Whether you’re missing those New York/Jersey bagels (from NDB) or can’t decide between the six (SIX) different Mexican cuisines, we’ve got it all. If you’re like me, the Chipotle conveniently located in the center definitely factored into your decision to go to UD.

The night life is always on point

Where on Tuesdays you can watch a man named Jefe play live music ranging from Shaggy’s ‘It Wasn’t Me’ to Billy’s ‘Piano Man’ with perfect accuracy at Deer Park, on Thursdays see everyone you know at Grotto’s, and on the weekends hit up Kate’s for their $3 drink specials and get rowdy upstairs.

So is the day life

No one parties harder than UD, and if you don’t believe me, take a walk on Main Street any Saturday afternoon. Main Street serves as the bridge by which the average squad may hop from one day-drink to the next – and maybe even stop for some Chipotle on the way. (Especially during that whole E. coli thing, because there was absolutely no line! Petition to bring that back.)

You will run into friends in every shop

On your way to class? There’s your freshman year roommate who lives on North Campus now! Buying some groceries at Walgreens? That guy you met out once but never got his name is the cashier! Who doesn’t love running into a friend they haven’t seen in a while? On Main Street, it’s always bound to happen. Granted, you’re also sure to run into someone you don’t want to see, but it’ll be thrilling, won’t it?

DOGS

Admit it. You once chose to walk down Main Street instead of East Delaware Ave based on the odds of seeing/petting/snuggling an adorable dog. They’re everywhere! If you’re missing your dog, just walk down Main Street: odds are, you’ll spend enough time with someone else’s that theirs will start to feel like your own.

There are some really unique individuals around

Who hasn’t politely indulged the man who hangs around the Starbucks, stopped and swayed to the old guy who plays guitar outside 5 and Dime, or fell star-struck by The Techno Bus Driver? And how about that dude who jams on the sax every now and then? Legends. Absolute legends.

It is just extremely convenient

It’s rare to find a place where you can pick up a package, buy a record, get a haircut, fix your bike, and do your dry-cleaning all on the same street. Will you ever do any of those things? Probably not – but it’s nice to know you have the option.

The housing is perfect for pre-games

If you live on Main Street, or know of someone who lives on Main Street, you are blessed. Bless you for waiting on the Lang line for 10 hours so that the rest of us could make a mess of your apartment while we used it to pre-game.

There are plenty of cool cars and drag-racers

Never seen a 1932 Ford Coupe? Head on over to Main Street. Nobody knows where these people came from, or where they’re going, but what we do know is that if they rev their engines one more time, we might just lose it.

It doubles as a perfect jogging path

Some use Main Street as their warm-up on their way to the gym, while others use it as their jogging path. It may not be as scenic as the reservoir or Pomeroy trail, but it’s perfect for those who want a challenge (and to reward themselves with a Blizzard from DQ afterwards).
