A former UCSB student was arrested yesterday in connection to the rape and assault of another student in February 2014.

On the 23rd of February 2014, the female victim was beaten and sexually assaulted by multiple male assailants at the northwest end of UCSB’s track, before returning home when her roommate notified law enforcement.

After the incident, the police department conducted a search and recovered physical evidence from the crime scene.

According to a UCPD statement, last month in an unrelated arrest in Alameda County, DNA evidence linked the 2014 assault to Daniel Jieng Chen. The 21 year old from San Ramon, California attended UCSB from September 2012 until December 2013.
