These are this year’s crown jewels of Nickel attendance

These are the most Nickel-dedicated students that UConn has to offer

Every UConn student knows the importance of Nickel to their well being during the semester. There is no better way to balance out the amount of school work you spent, like, four days in the library doing than getting four drinks for a dollar.

If you’re a fellow Nickel-goer, you know there’s always a few people you recognize because they’re there every single time. These people don’t even need to do iClicker questions for their attendance to count because you just know they’re there. I like to call these specimens the “crown jewels” of Nickel attendance; the people who are committed to the Nickel way of life. Most people I interviewed for this article have missed a few Nickels here and there, which is acceptable. Though many had sparkling attendance records, there was one who just stood out among the rest – our Queen of Nickel. Congrats to everyone who’s made the list, you should be truly humbled.

Patrick Smith, 21, Bristol, CT

A Pre-Med Chemistry major, this guy leads a balanced life between schoolwork and nickel. This fine specimen claimed, “I have never missed a Nickel since I don’t remember when.” He probably doesn’t remember because he had too many Nickel drinks. He goes every Thursday and Saturday night, but sometimes he skips Friday to give his body a rest, which is understandable.

“But to be fair I’ve gone to nickel the last three days and plan on going tonight,” he said.

Gabby Papish, 22, New York

Though she graduated in 2015 with a degree in Sociology, she loves Nickel so much she literally comes back to school just to go. “Girl I have seen some stuff. I think I only missed like five,” she said. I thought she deserved a mention for her outlasting determination to Nickel, even if every time she went she was sober.

“Sometimes the lights come on and the people who work there start sweeping the floor but I’m still there,” she says.

Scottie Brandner, West Hartford, CT

In addition to being a Real Estate major, this kid balances perfect Nickel attendance with being a swimmer. He said, “I’ve certainly been to a lot, almost every single one since turning 21.” He even offered to have his friends corroborate how many Nickel’s he’s been to.

Here he after a few drinks with his friend Kassie, who is apparently quite fond of nickel herself.

Ned Hewiston, James Riley and Jack Edmonds, from Australia, England and New Zealand

This trio of study abroad students claims to have gone to Nickel every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and some Sundays for basically the entire semester. Safe to say they spent their time here being immersed in true American culture. They’ve definitely made their mark on America, quickly raising the bar (no pun intended) for foreigners.

“I reckon we were pretty close to 100 percent attendance,” they said.

Drumroll please… Queen of Nickel is…

Fiorela Gonzales, our Queen of Nickel 2016

This girl may actually be the the best Nickel-goer I’ve ever seen and deserves the title of Queen of Nickel. “Nickel is the only thing I know,” she says. She often stays at Nickel until closing, and has even gotten rides home from the bouncers. She claims to have legitimately perfect Nickel attendance. “I get free cover, and I’m at the bar every single night. I show up to nickel every Thursday, Friday and Saturday.” She often uses an entire dollar to herself to get all four drinks. She even has pictures to prove it.

No need to share when you’re the queen

She is a god among mere mortals
