UCI will get a month long winter break this year

It’s like Christmas come early

The word is out that all University of California Schools will be extending their winter break schedule.

Always felt that maybe three weeks just wasn’t enough for a real vacation? Well now the UC school system winter break is extended to a whole month! Just like the good ol’ days back in High School. With a prolonged winter break, think of all the things you can now do with more time on your hands! You can thank New Years Eve and New Years day for this splendid news.

With these days falling on a Saturday and Sunday, UC students get an extra week off and Winter Quarter will begin a week later.

But the reaction has not been universally positive. Some UC Irvine students had more negative things to say about this new arrangement. Manisha Priyadarshini, a fourth year says, “Personally, I think four weeks becomes too much especially when taking classes in series because you may not be reviewing over break.

“It could be optimal for personal projects but it’s really awkward for wanting a short term internship like over summer. I would rather have a two or even three week break .Or add the extra week to spring break”

We’ll have to take into consideration that not everyone will be ecstatic with the extended break, for they are skeptical and concerned about personal academic objectives.

On the other hand another student (Anonymous) stated, “Extending winter break is a really great arrangement because I think it’s a good thing that no one has to rush back to campus once New Years rolls around, especially for those that live farther away.

However, the chances are that winter quarter starting later means that we are going to be in school later and they might end up pushing back the days that we get out for summer vacation.”

But, in order for the UC system to allow a longer Winter break, they must have had to make other adjustments to our other breaks like Summer vacation. All we can conclude now is that this is an awesome change yet again it may not be too exciting for some students due to other concerns. But for now get ready and plan something fun with your friends and family because winter break is calling your name!
