Victim of Haste Street shooting in critical condition

Shots were fired last night by Dana and Haste Street

Last night, around 11pm, Berkeley Police Dispatch received several reports of shots fired on the south side of campus on Haste Street, west of Dana.

At the scene, the police found a 35-year-old male of mixed race laying in the street with serious injuries from a gunshot wound. Officers administered first aid until the paramedics arrived. He was then transported to the Alameda County Hospital and is in critical condition, but alive.

It is unknown if he is affiliated with UC Berkeley.

The police are currently investigating the shooting and report that it did not appear a random, isolated incident. “It wasn’t somebody who just happened to be walking down the street and was shot,” says Berkeley Police Lt. Alyson Hart.

The police have blocked the scene of the crime, the intersection of Haste and Dana, to vehicle traffic and advise avoiding the area.
