Car becomes stuck to top of electrical wire following accident

The car was wedged upright at a 45 degree angle

Last night, a car flipped onto an electrical wire and “No Parking Any Time” sign at the intersection of Channing and Ellsworth, in the neighborhood of 2239 Channing Way.

Berkeley freshman Josh Weinstein posted this as a warning to the Facebook group “Class of 2020.”

Josh also replied in the comments to some questions, saying, “From what I heard, one car was going 95 MPH+ on the wrong side of the road, and just a partial collision caused the car you see to flip up and go in reverse.”

Others replied that it was “insane and totally avoidable,” and speculated the driver was under the influence: “Nobody backs up wires unless they are either hit or seriously drunk”.

If you look closely, there is wire going from the pole to the ground.

Another shot of the accident was posted on Wildfire. This person posted at 9:56pm, and his name has been left out for anonymity.

Patrick Zamba was at the scene and originally posted about it at 9:59pm on the Berkeley Group “Free and For Sale” page. He said: “The driver was already out and I don’t know who else was in.

“Even the car was not damaged at all. It actually ran on its own after being brought down… of course [there were] some minor dents on the grill which was landing against the road.”

Our prayers and thoughts to everyone involved.
