New private social network ‘Turtle’ comes out of its shell at Berkeley

Perhaps this explains that inflatable turtle hanging out on Sproul recently

Last week, Berkeley students received an email announcing Turtle, an exclusive new social network for Berkeley students that’s currently in Beta stages.

Touting benefits including local discounts, Q&A platforms for courses, and admission to “awesome launch parties and events,” the network claims to be “The Only App You’ll Ever Need.”

According to the launch email sent to every Berkeley student, ‘Turtle is the app that every Cal student has been waiting for. It gives you all the tools you need to succeed on campus and beyond’.

Turtle’s mobile app seems intuitive and easily navigable. The desktop site, on the other hand, reveals some of the kinks that come with beta mode.

Functionality is virtually nonexistent, with buggy signup links and a well-hidden login page.

“Turtle Beta will conclude in July. Beginning in August, we will be launching at other universities nationwide and around the world. Stay tuned.”
