Look at these adorable dogs celebrating Mardi Gras

Barkus was literally the best day of my life

Dogs are the purest creatures on Earth. So, when given the opportunity to cover an entire parade of pups last Sunday, I jumped at the chance. The Mystic Krewe of Barkus has been a Mardi Gras staple for 24 years now, giving senior canines and puppies alike the much-needed occasion to dress up and march around the French Quarter to the amusement of thousands of onlookers.

After almost three years at Tulane, my pal Jordan and I embarked upon a journey to Jackson Square to experience the festivities for the first time. This year’s theme was “From the Doghouse to the White House,” so we prepared ourselves for a throng of pups dressed as politicians.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be surrounded by an army of cute dogs in Donald Trump costumes?

Well The Tab got it all for you:

While walking down Decatur, we encountered our first floof of the day, who was decked out in her best Mardi Gras garb.

Through a crowd of dogs and their half-drunk humans, we finally reached the parade route just behind Jackson Square. We wandered through the herd of pups and people, stopping to meet the cutest of the bunch.

These pups came all the way from Kentucky just for the parade

After a while, we made our way to a less-crowded area to enjoy the puptastic panorama. The parade featured hundreds of pups, dressed as everything from Hillary Clinton to Chewbacca to Bear Bryant.

Finally, the closer (and my favorite part) of the parade: this beautiful French Bulldog and its incredibly attractive human.

Hot diggity dog.
