Hope in a struggling Temple Basketball team

What to look forward to as the Owls continue their season

The Temple University Men’s Basketball Team continue to face challenges in their pursuit to bounce back from their recent slump. The Owls started their season off strong with two back-to-back wins against former #25 Florida State and #19 West Virginia, claiming the NIT Season Tip-Off Title.

Currently, the team stands (12-11) overall and (3-7) in the American Athletic Conference. Fran Dunphy’s Owls lost 5 of their last 8 games. The won their most recent matchup on the road against Tulane (4-18) 79-71. Many are disappointed with current season the Owls are facing. They sit 8th in the American Athletic Conference. Although the team is dealing with a difficult year, there are many things to look forward to in the Temple University Men’s Basketball Team.

The Rest of the Season

The Temple team is set to face off against South Florida (6-14) on February 5th at home . The South Florida Bulls are 0-9 in the AAC. A win against South Florida will build momentum leading up to a home game against SMU (18-4). This could be a chance for the Owls to regain confidence and end the season with some “dubs.”

The Dynamic Duo

Temple supporters should look forward to a bright future for the Owls. Two developing Freshmen, Alani Moore II and Quinton Rose, have displayed their potential over the course of 22 games played this year. Moore II leads the team in free throw percentage (.833) and 3-point field goals (.407). Rose has also been a big player on the team averaging 9.5 points per game and had a career high 26-points in the upset of #25 Florida State. It will be interesting to watch the young stars develop under Coach Fran Dunphy.

Obi is only a Junior

Junior forward Obi Enechionyia was a major part of Temple’s success early in the National Invitational Tournament. His ability to create big plays allowed the Owls to dominate the court. In the matchup between #25 Florida State and #19 West Virginia, Obi Enechionyia averaged 19 points, 10 rebounds, and 5.5 blocks. His performance earned him a Player of the Week title. In recent match ups, Enechionyia was unable to create enough of an impact to lead the Owls to victory. The extra year will allow for Enechionyia to build upon his weaknesses and suit up for his Senior year. Look forward to the the “Hero in Zero”.
