Shonda Rhimes reminds Temple students that voting is an honor

And yes, she’s just as badass in person

Shonda Rhimes, professional storyteller, mastermind writer and producer behind shows like Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and How to Get Away With Murder (and kidnapper of my Thursday nights) came to Temple yesterday to campaign for Hillary.

To a crowd of more than fifty students, she started the conversation by trying to focus on the positive things- not Donald Trump- in this upcoming election. However, she is only human and temptation does strike.

She said his current state of popularity and potential to be the next POTUS is stressing her out. She tied up her view of him with a nice little bow by saying, “Somebody who doesn’t respect the body parts of women shouldn’t be making decisions about the healthcare of the body parts of women.” What a bow.

In regards to why she supports Hillary, she confessed, “I write for television. I make up television and if I were to create a woman running for President, I would be incredibly jealous of Hillary. That candidate is insanely smart, she’s overqualified, and knows what she’s doing. She’s got thirty years of public service . . .  you can’t make up a candidate like that.”

In true Shondaland-is-the-Disneyland-for-adults fashion, she reminded the room full of students that a vote is real-life magic.

“Voting is a right and it is a choice, you can say you’re not going to do it. But the thing you need to think about is that there was a time in history when it wasn’t always a right and people had to fight to make it their right.”

She cried, “It doesn’t matter if you are a man or a woman, black, white or brown. Somebody died for your right to vote. So it’s not necessarily a right, but an honor.”

Just like how the badass Hillary Clinton she described was first on the feminist line, Shonda took the stand and challenged students:

“The honor of citizenship is amazing. You vote so your voice can be heard but you also vote so that the voices of past generations can be heard. That’s the fundamental magic of a vote. Throwing that away, to me, is disrespectful.”

To crash Shonda’s soapbox, this article ends with a plea- a cry to go vote this Tuesday and respect that magic.
