An ode to the Tech Center

Thank you, Club Tech, for always being there for us Owls

The Tech Center – every Temple student has been here at least once in their time at Temple, whether it was to work on a group project or to cram some studying in last minute. Your mouth drops when someone tells you that they have never been there. We lovingly refer to this center as “Club Tech” since it has been our go-to spot for club officer meetings, group projects, and the like.

The moments spent at Club Tech have been some of the most memorable, but we often remember them for the tears shed while trying to finish up a project last minute.

Computer programs have crashed here, forcing us to start over on a project we have spent the last 5 hours working on. Half the time the people who work there don’t know how to help with our technical problems. We’ve all been caught next to the person who is whistling (and you can hear him/her over your music). You wish you had a dollar for every time you heard the announcement saying food is not permitted in the computer lab, though everyone eats there anyways, which is why there are crumbs in all the keyboards. No one will ever understand why people with laptops hog the desktops, and trying to find a computer or comfy seat, especially around midterms and finals, is a vicious battle. Figuring out why people sit next to friends on the computer – even though they aren’t even working – is a puzzle.

But the Tech has given us fond memories, too.  We’ve all been to Starbucks more times than we can count, for both the late nights and early mornings. We’ve felt the satisfaction of learning how to use a new software program and creating something on it. The satisfaction of completing a project, though it took hours, is always worth the hard work and effort. Friends have been made during the long hours spent working on a group project, and people watching is always interesting.

So, thank you, Club Tech, for all of the memories, both the good and the bad. Students would not make it through their Temple careers without you, and Temple would not definitely not be the same without you.
