Is Fancy Deli and Pizzeria the new best pizza on campus?

This new restaurant puts other pizza joints on campus to shame

Ask people at Temple what their favorite slice of pizza on campus is and you’re sure to be met with lots of “Maxi’s” and “Philly Style” responses. They might also claim that any of the other staple pizza places around here, like City View or Plaza Pizza, are the best.

All those places are good, sure, but what if I told you there’s a new place that just opened up that puts all of these other places to shame? You’d probably think I’m crazy, and until just a couple weeks ago I probably would’ve agreed with you.

But between then and now something changed – Fancy Deli & Pizzeria opened up and I tried some of their pizza. I mean just look at that slice of pizza. It’s super cheesy, the crust is nice and crispy brown, and the thing is as big as the plate it sits atop.

I went with the BBQ chicken here, but I’ve also had the cheese and pepperoni slices and they’re all just as mouth watering. I’ve had more than my fair share of pizza from Temple’s campus, yet it only took one slice from Fancy to realize how lackluster the other places around here really are.

And that sentiment goes for more than just their pizza. It might sound like I’m exaggerating, but literally everything I’ve tried from here has been delicious. Their wings, both with & without the bone, are great. The sauces are all tasty, and they come in sizes as little as five or all the way up to 30 pieces.

But wait, there’s more! Real food not what you’re looking for? Did you just partake in an activity of various legality that left you with a serious case of the munchies? Don’t worry, Fancy has you covered there too.

French fries, cheese & marinara… need I say more?

If all of this (somehow) isn’t enough for you, then I implore you to check out the rest of the menu. Be careful, though, you might develop carpal tunnel trying to scroll to the bottom because they have everything here: breakfast, hot sandwiches, cold sandwiches, pasta, pizza, wings, cheese-steaks, soups, salads, burgers, stromboli, panini, wraps, fish, quesadillas, desserts. Whatever Svedka has you craving at 1am, chances are they make it at Fancy.

What’s crazy is that I haven’t even gotten to the best part yet – the convenience. Fancy opened up on the corner of Oxford & Carlisle, less then a block from Morgan Hall. They’re a parking lot away from the Draught Horse and right across the street from Masters, and on weekends they stay open until 2am. The days of venturing across campus to go get late night drunk food at Munchies or Philly Style are no longer!

The price of a slice of pizza from Fancy? $2.25. A hefty cheesesteak costs less than a burrito from Qdoba. This place easily has the best food for the value out of any restaurant on campus, so all you broke college students out there (me) can enjoy some great food without hurting your wallet (although your waistline may be a different story).

I’m starting to run out of different ways to say “This place is amazing” though, so go check out Fancy. Save money, eat some bomb food, and definitely keep it in mind the next time you’re drunk at the Horse – you won’t regret it.
