Basketball is back on Broad Street

Time for another kick ass season with more free tacos

Temple basketball is back tonight with the Owls taking on #1 University of North Carolina to open the Veterans Classic at the Naval Academy for the first time in 24 years.

Last season the Owls were 26-11, giving fans free Qdoba 6 times for scoring over 72 at home and making it to the NIT semifinals after a March Madness snub. The Tarheels are also coming off a 26 win season, where they made it to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA March Madness tournament.

Coach Fran Dunphy begins his 10th season as the 2015 American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. He received his 500th career win against Memphis in the American Tournament quarterfinals.

UNC coach Roy Williams recognized star seniors #15 Jaylen Bond and #25 Quenton DeCosey during a press conference earlier this week, saying they are “big-time players who can play on any team in our league or any other league.”

Pretty big deal coming from the guy who coached Michael Jordan, James Worthy, Danny Green and Harrison Barnes.

Temple’s four freshmen recruits were all ranked four out of five stars and one was #81 in the entire class of 2015 nationally by ESPN this past year, meaning they will all be players to watch throughout their college basketball career starting this season.

The last time Temple and UNC played each other in March of 1991, UNC won only by three points. Sound familiar?

2015-2016 could definitely be the year for Temple sports. If Temple football could surprise us against a huge ranked opponent and play a close game, why should the fifth most victorious team in the history of NCAA basketball be any different?

Leave no doubt Owls.
