Temple made history

Remember when people said beating Penn State was pure luck?

Right now is the best time to be an Owl.

After years of team mediocrity and  fan heartbreak, the Temple Owls are 7-0 for the first time in team history, ranked nationally, bowl game eligible and are receiving a prime time spot on ABC for their game on Halloween against Notre Dame.

As if all of this wasn’t exciting enough, ESPN’s College GameDay will be coming to Independence Mall to cover the game we have been looking forward to all season. Sorry to anyone who originally planned to visit any of historic Philadelphia on Saturday, but it’s going to be taken over by Temple fans.

ESPN picking Temple over any other Saturday matchup proves what Temple fans have been hoping for; Temple is finally becoming a national contender. No one ever expected the kids from North Philly to beat the big state school. No one expected us to be nationally ranked. No one thought that College GameDay would notice us in a million years, but here we are, the underdogs coming out on top and damn, does it feel good.

Following the win over ECU, students were yelling down Broad Street, singing the fight song and full of pride for the school that they love. Cherry and white filled Liacouras Walk on Friday. School spirit was at an all time high. When the news broke over GameDay, social media blew up. Students dedicated 140 characters to professing their love for Temple. Talk of game day signs can be heard around campus. We have never been prouder to be Owls.

Notre Dame is going to be a tough team to beat. Will the crazy pride and hype about our team under the lights in front of a sold out crowd on Halloween propel us to victory? It’s not impossible. After beating the odds this season, we could definitely beat a bunch of leprechauns. Our team’s motto this season says it all; leave no doubt.
